Recommended reading for students of Native American studies.
Pioneer Cattleman in Montana: The Story of the Circle C Ranch.
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (June, 1973)
Average review score:

Incredible HistoryWalt Coburn was my grandfather's cousin, and he wrote what he knew - cowboy stories and wild west happenings. This book is my favorite of everything he's done except for "Stirrup High" as it describes in detail what it was like to live on a cattle ranch in the late 1800's. He also details an encounter with Chief Joseph and his Nez Perce tribe en route to Canada. The items given to my family by Chief Joseph remain in the family. Walt's gift of "spinning yarns" as he would say, was mostly put to fiction, it's wonderful to see this historical item in his list of books written. Bravo cousin!

Pretty-Shield: Medicine Woman of the Crows
Published in Paperback by Bison Bks Corp (October, 2003)
Average review score:

A Touching and Moving AccountI was engrossed with Pretty Shields story from the moment it began. It was wonderful to read of a native woman's life, before "the buffalo went away". Life then was simpler and so full of joy, as well as so many hardships, but the spirit that is brought across is inspiring and uplifting. A wonderful and engrossing read from beginning to end. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in Native studies, feminism, or simply life, before we came along.

Priceless Marriage (Millionaire, Montana)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (May, 2003)
Average review score:

Lives up to the seriesWhen Ruby Cade became part winner of the Big Buck Lottery jackpot, she immediately tried to call her husband Sam Cade who was serving in the Special Forces overseas. Sam had promised Ruby that he would not volunteer for any more dangerous assignments so when his commanding officer told Ruby that Sam was out on a mission, she lost it and decided she could not take it anymore and filed for divorce. Several months later when Sam gets out of the military, he travels to Jester, Montana determined to win back Ruby's heart. When Sam goes to knock on the door of the new farmhouse that Ruby has purchased with her lottery winnings, Sam sees her in the arms of another man. Ruby looks up just as Sam is leaving and calls him back, explaining the other man is "just Nick". When Ruby sees Sam again, she realizes she still loves him as much as ever but she has to be sure he's going to stick around this time before she lets him back into her life. One look at Ruby and Sam knows he'll do anything to win her back so he begins to help her and "just Nick" with work around the farm. Sam wonders how long it will take to win Ruby's faith back and who the heck is "just Nick" anyway!
I've followed the Millionaire Montana series from the start but didn't think I would like this book because the characters in it were hardly mentioned in the other books in the series. I was pleasantly surprised because I did really like the book. Sam's determination to win Ruby back was very sexy. There was also quite a bit of humor in the book.

The River Runs North : A Story of Montana Moss Agate
Published in Paperback by Tom and Cheryl Harmon (30 September, 2000)
Average review score:

Outstanding AchievementHaving been involved in the hobby of Rock & Mineral collecting all my life and having a special interest in Montana agate, I found this book outstanding. The author has spent his entire life extracting and working these fine agates into objects of great beauty. The book is well illustrated with many color photographs of some of the best Montana agate from the collections of many notable collectors. It includes a geological background and understanding, methods of finding, and how to finish these fine agates. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the hobby. It will create this real ungency for you to visit Montana real soon to check out these treasures in person. Enjoy!

The Rock Climbers Guide to MontanaI live in Montana, and am very active, love to rock climb and hike. This book is pretty idiot proof, and easy to follow. It even rates the climbs so you can climb only at your skill level.

The Sacrificial Lion : George Armstrong Custer (Montana And The
Published in Hardcover by Upton & Sons (27 September, 1999)
Average review score:

A Clear View of Gen. CusterMr. Custer tells a very bare bones version of his great-great uncle's life. It is startling how much is cleared away when only basic facts are discussed. The author cuts through hype, politics, revisionism, and decades of venomous build up to paint a simple, sympathetic view of Custer's life and death. He makes a compelling case against those who have crucified the general for fun and profit, not to mention political and social motives. I liked this cleaned up story.

Se fue con prisas a la montaña ... : los hechos de Garabandal
Published in Unknown Binding by Eusebio Garcâia de Pesquera ()
Average review score:

The DEFINITIVE book on the Garabandal Apparitions!!!The English translation of this monumental volume is titled "She Went in Haste to the Mountain." If you read no other book on Garabandal, you have to read this one! In either English or Spanish it is the most heavily-researched, and well documented account of the events ever written. I'm so grateful to God for letting meet Father Eusebio Pesquera when I was in Garabandal (shortly before he died), and he signed my Spanish translation. This priest was a living Saint, and Garabandal was his whole life, and he proves it by the meticulous research and solid, yet beautiful narrative that is unlike any other book on the subject. This book is an absolute TREASURE!
